The brief of this project was to “challenge the platform” in the means of bringing the target hardware and software (Kanzi) to its limits. Which also meant to add more glows, particles and shine to the GUI than european customers and I would prefer. As of now (2015 / 2016) almost no instrument cluster or central stack shows realtime 3d rendered images because the hardware currently built into cars is barely capable. Although Kanzi (http://www.rightware.com/kanzi/) which has been used for almost two years now starting with Audi´s TT in 2014 and also another big German car manufacturer is capable of rendering full 3D applications.
My job was to come up with a visual style and animation which I developed in Cinema 4D, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects. After the ideation phase was done I handed the data over to a colleague who then ported everything to Maya, because the Kanzi software team needed FBX files specifically exported from Maya. Said colleague also built the car, the 3d map and added the background.
